Past History<\/b><\/p>

This department was originally founded in February 1953 and belonged to the \u201cDivision of Industrial Arts Education\u201d in the Department of Industrial Education, which was focused on the preparation of secondary school Industrial Arts teachers. In 1972, this division was renamed to the \u201cDivision of Industrial Technics Education\u201d and became an independent department as a name of \u201cDepartment of Industrial Arts Education\u201d which was belonged to the College of Fine Arts. In 1991, a Master degree program was built. In 1994, its name was changed to the \u201cDepartment of Industrial Technology Education\u201d, aimed at preparing of secondary school technology teachers as well as the professionals for human resource development in business and industry. In 1988, this department was belonged to College of Technology, which was a new founded college, and a PhD degree program was set up in this department. In 2009, the name was formally changed to the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development, fully devotes to prepare the professionals for human resource development in technology and industries. At present, the department has undergraduate, master, in-service master program, and PhD Programs.<\/div>

Prospect<\/strong><\/div>
After the announcement of the Teacher Preparation Law, every university can apply for the teacher preparation program and educate teachers for elementary and secondary schools. During the process of educational reforms, the National Taiwan Normal University still followed the tradition and ideal of developing teachers for secondary schools; therefore, this department still focused on developing technology teachers for living technology curriculum in secondary schools. In recent years, the National Taiwan Normal University focused on moving from a teacher preparation university to a comprehensive university, and the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development also focused on training excellent talents in technology education and human resource development by following the excellent tradition of teacher education, developing a diverse curriculum framework, and integrating theory with practices in industry. Meanwhile, this department also focused on developing information and communication technology talents by making good use of our superiority in facing the coming of information age.<\/span><\/div>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0“Technology Application and Human Resource Development” refers a series of action based, hands-on, minds-in courses that allow students to work with and study modern technology and the impact that it has on our society. Beginning with an “Introduction to Technology” in high schools, “Explorations in Technology” in the middle schools level – students may explore study or specialize in many educational areas that interest them.\u00a0

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Technology Application and Human Resource Development prepares secondary school-through-university students for successful transition to the workforce and participation in the home, community, and post-secondary education. Students in TAHRD programs today are mastering curricula featuring basic scientific principles, mathematical concepts, and communication skills in the career pathways of communication technology, construction technology, engineering and design technology, manufacturing and product development technology, transportation technology, energy and power technology, and information technology as well.\u00a0

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Technology Education program is designed to prepare students for a teaching career of Living Technology in secondary schools. The transformation to industrial technology education continues to provide all students with basic knowledge and skills needed for the next millennium. Students are prepared to teach in communication, construction, manufacturing, and transportation technology areas. Industrial Technology Education is a hands-on program using an investigative, design-and-construct, problem solving approach to teaching. Students study the resources, systems, processes, products, and impacts of technology. The curriculum is designed to allow students to teach in a laboratory setting using modern technological facilities and equipment.\u00a0

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0All programs have a technology base, with the majority of courses providing laboratory experiences in state-of-the-art laboratories. In addition to find a teaching position at secondary schools, all programs are designed to prepare graduates qualified for a wide range of positions in business, government, education and industry.\u00a0

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The purpose of the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development is to provide courses in the three curriculum areas of a teacher preparation curriculum of Living-Technology, Human Resource Development for Higher Education and Industry, and programs in Computer Applications and E-learning. Graduates from these degree programs are employed in various educational institutions, business, industries, and government agencies.\u00a0

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To our students, the Department provides world-class integrated curricula in Industrial Technology Education, Human Resource Development, and Computer Applications relevant to students’ life and careers, valuable in terms of content and competencies, and connected to the needs of business and industry. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In order to increase more job opportunity to our graduates, this department was renamed to Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development from 2009. For the Bachelor degree, the curriculum was divided into two divisions, which are the \u201cDivision of Learning and Technology\u201d and the \u201cDivision of Design and Technology\u201d, to develop excellent technology teachers for technology education and human resources development specialists for industry. For the Master degree, the curriculum was divided into the three divisions, which are the \u201cDivision of Technology and Engineering Education\u201d, the \u201cDivision of Human Resource\u201d and the \u201cDivision of Web-based Learning\u201d, to develop graduate students\u2019 professional competency and research abilities in different learning fields. Teaching facilities at present include Maker Space, Seminar Room 1, Seminar Room 2, Seminar Room 4, Human Resource Development Seminar Room 1, Human Resource Development Seminar Room 2, CAD Lab, Media Design Lab, e-Learning Lab, Electrical Lab, General Lab., Creativity-in-Action Lab. , Computer Lab. ,Metal Arts LAB, Electronics Lab, Graduate Study Room 1, Graduate Study Room 2, Graduate Study Room 3, and Project Study Room. Other facilities are shared with the Department of Industrial Education, including woodwork lab, foundry lab, automotive lab, sheet metalwork lab and mechanical drawing room. In addition, the facilities and labs are well-equipped with computer networks to promote teaching and learning for faculties and students.<\/span><\/p>
